36 original drawings
These drawings, restored for the occasion, bear witness to the different periods, subjects and techniques of the artist.
Visitors can admire some superb washes from Poussin’s early career (Acis et Galatée, Mars et Vénus, Daphné et Pénée), as well as 2 studies for L’Adoration des Mages [The Adoration of the Magi], a painting executed by Nicolas Poussin in 1633 and today conserved in Dresden. Also on display are a number of drawings inspired by classical works (Statue équestre de Marc-Aurèle, études d’après la Colonne Trajane) and pieces inspired by some of the Renaissance Masters: Jules Romain and Polidoro da Caravaggio.
Visitors can also see a number of landscapes peopled with minuscule figures, indicative of the artist’s late style. Most of these drawings come from the collection of Frédéric Reiset, acquired by the Duc d’Aumale in 1860, while others come from the collections of Pierre Crozat, Pierre-Jean Mariette, Dominique-Vivant Denon and Sir Thomas Lawrence.
Exhibition included in the Domain ticket with no extra cost.
