Chef François Vatel's old kitchens

Under the arches of famous 17th century French chef François Vatel's old kitchens, at the heart of the château, La Capitainerie restaurant serves a simple, refined menu using fresh produce.

All year long you can enjoy our famous homemade Chantilly whipped cream, our lunch menus and our tea room. When the weather is fine, you can eat outside at one of our tables in the magnificent paved courtyard.

A brief history :

The kitchens of the château were famous for the majestic dinners organised by François Vatel, steward of the Prince of Condé.

In 1671, he organised three days and three nights of festivities in honour of King Louis XIV. Dishonoured when the morning's catch was delivered late, he killed himself on the second day. This tragic story is recounted by the Marquise de Sévigné in a letter to her daughter.
